Young et al. vs. Ygnacio Machado et al. no. 965 of the register of actions were allotted to the heirs of Agustin Machado dec'd by decree of the district court of the 1st judicial district, Cal. of 14 December 1868 : showing the partition of said lands made in the suit of Ramona Machado vs. Domingo Machado et als. in the district court of the 17 judicial district, California / by Geo. Hansen sole referee of partition appointed by the decree of said district court of October 11th 1875 ; assistant surveyor and draughtsman Alfred Solano. 1876.

This collection consists of a map of Rancho La Ballona, which covered present-day Venice, Culver City, and West Los Angeles. In the 1820s, Agustín and Ygnacio Machado settled this area, which served as a cattle ranch. The map records the division of the rancho among the heirs of Agustín Machado in 1876 as the result of a lawsuit among these family members. Annotations on the map note each heir's allotment of pasture, farmland, and beachfront. The collection also includes a photographic negative (31" x 64" at 1:1 ratio) of the map.

In 1875 Alfred Solano became associated with surveyor George Hansen (1824-97), assisting him in the making of surveys of various tracts in Los Angeles County and in other parts of Southern California. Hansen served as Los Angeles city surveyor from 1863 to 1868, and in 1883. After Hansen's death in 1897, his records were left to Solano, who became a parter of Sidney B.
